Statement
from George Simon, II Regarding Miss US
As you know, we were making a valiant attempt
to have the restored Miss US run again on the Detroit River
at this year's Gold Cup. While testing on the St. Clair
River last evening, Tom D'Eath as test driver, noticed the
oil pressure had dropped to dangerous levels and shut the
system off. Unfortunately, we have determined that we lost
a main bearing on the crankshaft of the engine, an item
not easily repaired and certainly not in time for this weekends
event.
Needless to day we are extremely disappointed
that hydroplane enthusiasts from around the country will
not have the opportunity to see the Miss U.S. under power
on the river this year. However, we will have the boat in
the pit area for viewing this race weekend by the public
of the restored hull. Repairs to the engine systems will
begin immediately after the Detroit Gold Cup.
I
would like to express my personal appreciation to the team
who worked so very hard on the boat over these past few
weeks, Tony Taylor, Mike Sutton, John Gusmano, Ray Taylor,
Tom D'Eath, and Ike.
George
A. Simon, II
